Spider mites, perhaps, rather than spiders. Once you get webs, it's warfare or nothing. I've lost plants to mites before.
Only way I can think to distinguish between the two is to wait a week and see if the spiders are larger. The only spiders I've followed from egg to egg grew *fast*.
